Exceeded my expectations. Quality materials VG10 Blade steel, this is the steel Spyderco uses on a lot of there Japan made knives. Knife has no real hot spots in my hand and feels like a much more expensive knife in my opinion The flipper tab is great and the detent is dialed in perfectly. Blade centering is perfect no side to side or up and down blade play. The blade grind is even and comes hair shaving sharp. The G10 scales are very grippy for a controlled fell in your hand in different environments. . This knife will find its way into my edc rotation. You guys keep doing what you are doing because you are doing an awesome job with the design of your knives.
You know your knives! Thanks for speaking so highly of Quick Feather. We're thrilled that the details we put so much energy into perfecting are noticed and appreciated. Thanks for the high praise and 5-star rating!
This makes a great everyday pocket carry item for anyone who works outdoors.
Thanks for sharing! So glad to hear Sparky & Scratch Key earned a place in your EDC!
Finally got back in the wild again and had a great time with my Scout. I had matches, but I lit our campfire and camp stoves with the Scout because its so darn fun. Used the whistle to signal fellow campers who explored other trails.
Don't overlook all this quality, utility, and great customer service for under 70 bucks! It's awesome!
These make great gifts. My nephews loved the Scout I gave them for Christmas.
Grab a Scout for your belt/pack and a Slicer for your kitchen set. Get out and have some fun!
Wowāthank you so much for coming back to share this (and for the photos and video!). Itās awesome to hear the Scout getting real use againāfire starting, signaling, and just having fun out there is exactly what it was made for. We love that youāre passing them on as gifts too, and that your nephews are enjoying theirs. Truly appreciate the kind words and your supportāthanks for taking us along on your adventures.
I actually gave this blade and the Phoenix Feather to my nephew who is beginning to really get into hunting. He was ecstatic to get the knives and loved the gut hook and finger hole and knew immediately that the two could be set up together. He is one happy hunter! Thank you Mike!!!
Thank you for your positive feedback! We're thrilled to hear that your nephew loved the Phoenix Talon Survival Hunting Knife and Phoenix Feather. We hope he has many successful hunts using the knives. We'd love to see pics! Happy Hunting!
The only complaints I have about this knife are that the listed blade hardness is slightly off, and that I wish there were attachment points on the outer side of the sheath so it could be worn inside the pocket. I cpuld tell from sharpening the knife that the steel was softer than the 58-60 listed, so I tested it with an at-home test and it tested in the high 40s to low 50s. This hardness is perfectly fine for this price point, and nearly every knife in this price range Iāve tested has been around this hardness.
Thanks for sharing the details of your testingāwe really appreciate the thoughtful feedback. Our quality control process includes batch hardness testing: for every 100 knives produced, a swatch of the same steel and thickness follows the batch and is measured to confirm it meets our Rockwell hardness specification. We know how critical hardness is in a blade; too hard and it can become brittle, too soft and it requires more frequent sharpening. At-home hardness tests are useful for general comparison, but they can vary quite a bit depending on surface finish, test method, and whether theyāre reading surface vs. core hardness. Because of that, they often read lower than calibrated Rockwell testing. Weāre checking in with our manufacturing partner to verify hardness on our end as well. Carry options are also important to us, so we offer a pocket carry clip for the scout sheath. Thanks again for taking the time to share this and for the 5-star review of Scout Feather. Happy adventuring!
