What makes Flicker Feather the best EDC knife and a must for camping, adventure, woodworking, bushcraft, hunting, fishing, and survival?Ā Ā
It's got to be that it is so much more than just a knife. It not only cuts, but it also sparks fire, sharpens in the field, and signals for help.Ā
FLICKER FEATHER: EDC Chisel Blade
The Northern Flicker is a woodpecker found in North America. Their chisel beaks have been known to torment my dad's cabin in Eastern Texas. How's that for name inspiration? This little chisel blade cuts, sparks fire, sharpens, and signals.
That's 4 Elements of Adventure so you can Explore with Confidence!Ā Ā
4 ELEMENTS FOR ADVENTURE
CUT:Ā Confidently cut with this unique, small & mighty fixed blade.Ā Flicker Feather's chisel blade is a unique tool - ideal for making a fine, straight cut and known for its strength, ease of sharpening, chopping, and cutting hole pattern. Ā Use it for woodworking, bushcraft, and in the kitchen as your go-to camp culinary knife.Ā
COMBUSTION:Ā Throw generous sparks by striking the 90-degree spine against the hex-shaped, threaded ferrocerium rod integrated into the sheath.Ā
SIGNAL:Ā Be loud. Be found. A loud, 115b safety whistle is attached to the butt of the knife on a reflective mini lanyard strung through the hex driver.
SHARPEN: A sharp knife is a safe knife. Thanks to the 800-grit diamond sharpening plate built directly into the sheath, you can hone Flicker on the go.Ā
ADDITIONAL FEATURES:
DRIVE:Ā Tighten or replace the threaded 1/4ā hex ferro rod using the built-in driver. The sheath is fully threaded so the ferro rod can be inserted backward, providing additional purchase/grip in holding the sheath and striking the knife's spine against the ferro rod.
CARRY OPTIONS:Ā Multiple carry options make Flicker Feather secure and accessible. The form-fitted, secure-lock sheath features a heavy-duty clip, specifically designed to fit 3/4" webbing (common size of sternum straps on backpacks). MOLLE compatible. Or wear Flicker Feather as a neck knife by threading the cordage of your choice (we suggest our custom survival cord) through the two larger sheath rivets. Flicker Feather is lightweight (2.3 oz unsheathed, 4.2 oz sheathed) and easy to carry. Now includes additional belt clip and hardware.
GIFT IDEAS:Ā Ideal for any outdoor enthusiast, whether novice or expert, for men, and women, EDC, cooking, fishing, camping, hiking, and bushcraft, stored in your emergency kit in the car or bug-out bag, so youāre ready for any outdoor adventure or emergency. Unique gift for the man or woman in your life that has everything. Give it for Christmas, as a stocking stuffer, or for any other holiday, birthday, Motherās Day, Fatherās Day, or other occasion such as a wedding, graduation or thank you gift for a coach, mentor, teacher, friend, or neighbor.
BLADE ANGLE OPTIONS:Available with a right-handed grind to the blade, or a left-handed grind.
WISE OWL GLOW OPTION:Available in a fluorescent, glow-in-the-dark handle option and a GLOW whistle.Ā
Did you know an owl's feathers fluoresce? Now your Scout Feather can too with the 'Wise Owl' Glow Option!
What's in a name?Ā
Why is there a theme of feathers in the naming of the knives? Along with being lightweight and beautiful like these knives, feathers hearken back to my Native American heritage.Ā Read more here.

Picked one of these up a few weeks ago and absolutely love it. Im not one for writing reviews, but my boys have loved their fire flute (8yo got a fire going with the flute and accompanying tinder in a few minutes) and fire carabiner (with some patient tinder holding on my part, my 3yo was able to get a spark to take). Iām writing this review to weigh in on the change from torx to Phillips drive - donāt do it!!! Seriously. Phillips is trash. The build quality on all the Outdoor Element tools is excellent, and Phillips is incongruent with that quality.
Hi David, thank you so much for sharing your experience and kind words! We're thrilled to hear your family enjoys the tools and that the quality meets your expectations. We appreciate your feedback on the drive type.
We hear you on Torx being a superior drive head to Phillips. However, because we used T6 and T8 heads in the past, many customers (due to the size) assumed they were hex heads, used an Allen wrench, and stripped the Torx head. For that reason, we moved to a Phillips head for the clip. Thanks for your feedback and support!

Lives in my work coat
I have a few different blades from OE and this one is probably my main work horse. I use it to cut twine when feeding the animals, scribe light lines for carpentry, and fix a lot of things I would normally turn to a chisel for and all this with the righty when I'm a lefty (because lefty wasn't a thing yet when I bought my current version). I pocket carry this blade all the time around home and I switch to the scout when out. Definitely a solid knife and much more compact that the other chisel blades I looked at. At some point I'll pick up a lefty and I can say after years of use now that this is a blade you won't regret owning.
Hi Brady, thank you so much for sharing your experience! We're thrilled to hear that the Flicker Feather has become such a reliable tool for you. Your trust means a lot to us, and we're glad it serves you well in so many tasks. Happy to be part of your gear collection.

Husband loves it
I got this for my husband after I showed him my Scout Feather. This is absolutely his style and he loves it. It's such a cool blade and of course, love all the survival add-ons like the whistle, sharpener and ferro rod. Excellent product and excellent shipping and excellent company!
Scout Feather for you and Flicker Feather for himānow thatās what we call a power couple! Glad heās loving it. Thanks so much for your kind words and taking time to leave a review. Most of all thanks for letting OE be part of your adventurous duo. š„ Happy adventures ahead!
Not only a well-deigned blade but an outstanding company
This little blade is the perfect companion to always have with you. It's rare to get a product that is so well thought out, everything about it has a purpose and is designed to be durable. The defining feature of this knife though is the company that stands behind it. I had a small issue with my sheath and the owner of the company no less got right back to me with a solution. This is nearly unheard of in modern times, especially when it's for a product that offers such great value. I'm very happy with it and am glad to support this hard working company.
perfect for keeping a razor edge on the trail without adding weight or bulk
This works really well to strop a razor edge back on your blade in the field after normal use. It's one of those sharpening tools that makes a lot of other options irrelevant and just takes care of it's purpose without being heavy or bulky enough to have to think about having it in your pack. The micarta base is lightweight and solid, all you need and nothing you don't. I pair this with a work sharp folding field sharpener that's the same size for a complete lightweight solution. Easily my favorite packable strop.
well made and perfect for projects as well as spares
These ferro rods are just right, long enough to get a good strike and compact so you'll have them with you when you need to. Besides being a direct replacement for the well-designed OE knife sheaths, these are easy to implement into DIY projects with a standard 1/4-20 thread.
