What really give this 5 stars is the customer service

I purchased this as I have lost my share of ferro rods by laying them down and them magically disappearing (lol). I figured I would buy this and just snap it to my bag and use it to hang my crocs from it. It sparks easy enough and I have been able to light my mini stove from it. I have not tried it yet with my homemade fire-starting (lint/wax), but I am sure it would catch easy enough. What really give this 5 stars is the customer service.

I like to know how to fix things should I need to (this comes with 2 extra ferro rods). Their website has videos on how to take out the set screw and replace the ferro rod. When I tried to remove set screw, it was literally stuck in there. Finally got it moving and it was a struggle to get out. Once I had it out, the set screw would not go back in. I contacted Outdoor Element and provided pictures to show the issue I had. They were very understanding and the next day they had already shipped me a replacement. Great Customer Service. While I hope I do not lose this one, it I do - I know I will buy another.

User Beware Notice

Overall, real nice little carabiner. Here’s something to be aware of when you’re using it. Halfway through a hike, I got hot and took off a down vest and stuffed it into its pocket. The stuff sack had a corded loop that I clipped into the Firebiner and that was clipped to my little daypack. I had hiked a bit more and took a break to find the corded loop halfway cut through from being wrapped into small cutter built into the Firebiner. If I hadn’t noticed it, I might have lost a down vest. I’m thinking of either taping over the cutter or somehow rendering it useless .

Nice gadget, disappointing sparker

This small gadget has several handy little aspects that I presume work as intended. However, I bought it for the sparker, and I'm disappointed that, though it throws sparks, I can't get it to light dry paper. I was hoping to replace the often useless butane fireplace lighters with something that didn't require fuel, but...no. Back to matches.

Thank you for leaving a review for our Firebiner. We're glad to hear that you find the Firebiner features useful. Sparks from Firebiner can light dry paper if the fibers of the paper are exposed. The best way to accomplish this is tear the paper and cast sparks onto the exposed fibers. Toilet paper and paper towels light more easily than copier paper because the fibers are especially loose and easily exposed when torn and pulled apart. Copier paper also ignites if it is torn down enough to let the sparks hit open fibers. Hope that is helpful. Thanks again for your review and feedback.
